I have ADD and CAPD (Centeral Auditory Processing Disorder), which was diagnosed as an adult. I am going back to school this summer (college). I have been looking for a digital recorder to aid in my notetaking. Does anyone have any experience with them? I have used the regular tapes, but find them hard to understand once I get them back home and review the tape. Has anyone got any suggestions?

Thanks

JM

Jim,
I found this on Richard Wanderman’s website ( www.ldresources.org ) which may be helpful to you. He is an adult with dyselxia and he is up on all the latest tools and strategies that are beneficial.

I love my Panasonic digital voice recorder. I’ve had numerous models, mostly Panasonic (learn one, stick with it) and use them all the time. It beats the pants off a tape recorder for quick notes and on the higher end models you can record at different speeds to get more in memory or on even higher end models there are removable flash memory cards for unlimited recording.

Simple is best: features mean nothing if you can’t use them. Small is best: too big and you won’t put it in your pocket.

Don’t get snookered into buying a model with Dragon Naturally Speaking and a computer connection. The mics on these things does not filter out ambient noise well enough to do speech recognition.

Also see if you can find ways to incorporate visuals into your notes. If you remember pictures & diagrams better than words, all that stuff gets easier to understand.
