Does anyone know of a book or website on how to test your child’s reading level? Any help is greatly appreciated!

What do you want to know?

If you want to know how your child measures up compared to a big group of “normal” students, then you have to use a standardized test — one that has been given to a few thousand students. YOu could buy one or pay somebody who has one to give the test.

WHen somebody “Reads at a fourth grade level” it generally means s/he did as well on one of t hose tests as fourth graders generally did.

You could also get a hold of some materials used in different grades for reading and have your child try to read them.

I have no idea how good this test is!

If you check the backs of books your child is reading, at the lower grade levels you will often find something like RL: 2.4 which means Reading Level Grade 2, 4th month. That can be helpful in figuring out approximate reading levels.
