I would like to thank all the teachers out there who work so hard to help our children. I just got back from a nice parent teacher conference with my youngest sons teacher and felt I owed the teaching community a thank you. Thank you for not seeing my son as a label but an individual. Thank you for not giving up when there is “no” hope. When my youngest was diagnosed as Austic I was told to take him home and love him for who he was because things would never get better. Oh but they have, since early interventive services at the age of 2. At this point I had a child who did not communicatte and was rarely in this world. The experts thought he will “never” learn to read, write, ect. Today he is a 3rd grade student who although he struggles can read a basic book, write down an idea (maybe not legibally), communicatte so you understand him, and he is happy. This is all because the teachers he has had saw the person and not the label. I thank you all for your patience and understanding.
