Thank you-progress made

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Shay, Susan Long, Sue, Ken, Anitya, and all the others who have helped with the reading issues going on at my house. Shay was even kind enough to email a program outline that she uses. I have implemented many of the suggestions you have all suggested with my boys. We have used RR, audioblox, partner reading, Great Leaps, repeated reading, ect. I am finally starting to see a significant improvement in both boys! My oldest son will be in a reading skills class next semester to give him that final push to get to grade level. Recently though he has read books for pleasure! I have caught him up at night reading his Star Trek books, and not the kid versions but the adult versions. When I asked him about it he said it was still very difficult but he was able to read enough of it to get pleasure out of the book. He has also been reading more of his assignments and tests on his own. The same is true for my 4th grade son who falls on the autism spectrum. Although still difficult for him he will attempt to read his assignements on his own and be able to get most of it. He also requested two books when we went to the book store last time. He loves the SpongeBob Square Pants series. I feel I owe all of you thanks for showing that sometimes patience, backing off, and the right programing is what is needed. In my sons lit class he went from getting barely passing grades to 80-90’s on recent tests and quizes. Thank you all so very much.

Wow!!! Reading on his own for pleasure!!!! I can only imagine!!!

That’s a great sign that your son is surely on his way to becoming an accomplished and educated reader! :-)

That’s SO encouraging, Lisa! A dedicated teacher (YOU) and the right materials are the key!
