How can I teach my genearl education class that includes someone with a learning disability without making it seem like there is any difference between the students and to make the students understand that not everyone is the same?
Re: Tracee
i totally disagree. you can make them understand that everyone is different. we all have our strengths and weaknesses. just because this child may need a little extra help in the classroom does not make that child any less of a student. try having the kids work together in small groups whenever possible. the kids will soon see that he/she is not so different from themselves.
Re: Tracee - multiple intelligences
What has worked very well in our school is doing a lesson on multiple intelligence (Howard Gardner or Thomas Armstrong are the gurues) - That way everyone sees everyone else has strengths and challenges. It also gives you an opportunity to get a profile on your class so you can plan activities that strengthen all of your students learning…. And this is not just for elementary level - I work in a high school and many of our teachers do this as a matter of course and post the different learning styles in their classroom as a reminder when planning activities ….

You can’t.
