Virtual Environment for Students with Math. Disabilities...

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I am actually a CS PhD student currently investigating if highly media riched 3D graphical virtual environment could improve students’ problem-solving skills. Basically, such a computer generated environment can allow students to visualize abstract concepts in a more concrete representations, provide students with game-like environment for motivating them to learn, and guide students to learn math in a more familiar real-world context etc.

Since I don’t have background on educational theories, so I am very interested in hearing what math teachers have to say about their experience in teaching students with Math. Disabilities and what are some of the traditional approaches math teachers used in teaching problem-solving skills. Also, consider this, if you have a magic wand, how would you improve some of the traditional approaches for teaching problem-solving skills in your classroom?

Any ideas or feedback would be appreciated 8-)

Thanks

Will
