Hi, I am wondering if anyone has any good ideas or names of resources to share on activities for a grade four student with visual-auditory learning difficulties. I would appreciate it if you could e-mail me. Thanks.

Nancy this is sometimes called perceptual remediation, and althought it was done in the 70’s, it was proven in the 80’s that it didn’t work, meaning it didn’t improve academic skills. A kid may have an auditory closure or visual sequencing problem, but remediating those skills won’t make him a better reader. What works is academic remediation in the specific areas he has trouble with. One example is phonological awareness remediation for reading problems. And these kids should be in one of the good LD reading programs like you see discussed on these message boards, Lindamood-Bell, Orton-Gillingham, Earobics, etc. -Bob
