Visual Motor Integration -how to remediate

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am looking over my son’s evaluation scores from a year ago. We’ve come along way, but we’re still having a problem with writing. His handwriting is OK, but he hates writing.

On the Bender Motor Gestalt Test, he scored in the percentile rank of 12% (below average range). The ed pscy indicated this would cause difficulty with visual-spatial organization and fine motor production of written work.

A developmental optometrist tested him 1 month later, and he scored a year above his age on the Beery Test of Visual Motor Integration. But, scored 3 years below his age on the Detroit Test of Motor Speed and Precision.

I was wondering if anyone can help me understand what this means — and what type of professional I would need to remediate this (motor speed and precision). Not sure if its VT, OT, PT, neurology etc.
