This test is being circulated by some OTs and PTs in the state of Florida IMHO as a way to EXCLUDE children from services. I have a copy of the evaluation and I can describe it as: 14 pages long, yet material could be condensed into about one paragraph. There is no test publisher name or serial type of coding on the pages. There is not an age or grade level of critera of measurement. It is divided into 6 domains: learning, self-help, mobility, gross motor, fine motor-visual and sensory processing. It is scored as Functional, S/P, P/A ,Emerging, V or N/A. Although I have a sneaking suspicion the counties in Florida who don’t want to provide OT services created the test, I feel they must have copied this format from some other form of testing. Perhaps in the MH or severely handicapped population. Is it possible that a test of this sort could meet the provisions of IDEA Act and preclude a child from receiving services?? If you can eat a french fry, button your pants and not crash into a wall when you walk……You Will Pass! It is then cross-referenced with a Criteria for Educationally Relevant Therapy Summary Sheet which refers to the “Clinical Judgement Factors” which produce the scoring on the original evaluation. We have been told repaeatedly that OT for handwriting is not educationally relevant and that writing is not educationally relevant. We are totally blown away. Any comments supportive or otherwise are appreciated.
