I am a special Ed. teacher in rural AL. I would like to know if anyone has info. on a writing assessment which would give me a grade level of function??? My IEP’s (not done by me) don’t name one, but give %’ s of use of correct spelling, machanics, ect…as though taken from an informal writing sample. I just don’t understand how some with lower skills scored a higher % of correctness……

The Test of Written Language will give you a lot of information and also ask the speech and language pathologist if she has some tests that would be appropriate for you to use.

Some teachers use the Brigance and children usually score higher on that test. It is an informal inventory of skills.
