The State of Learning Disabilities 2009 is a comprehensive report on the status of individuals with learning disabilities (LD) in the United States. It provides a data-based perspective of LD in the context of education reform. The National Center for Learning Disabilities (NCLD) created this publication to ensure that policy makers, education professionals, media, parents, and others have access to key LD data and to expand awareness about what LD is and whom the condition impacts.
Key facts presented in the report include: the number of students identified as having a learning disability; whether this number is increasing or decreasing; the relative cost of education a student with LD; and the retention, dropout, and college-going rates for children with LD.
