Because of their repeated failures in school (Mel Levine refers to this as “chronic success deprivation”), many LD kids are very sensitive to massive corrections of their written work. The sight of their compositions covered with red-penciled corrections, arrows, symbols and cross outs becomes a real morale buster for these kids.
Try this. Make your corrections with Post-It notes, without actually marking up the composition. Or slide the essay into an acetate sheet and make the corrections in grease pencil on the acetate. The composition is unscathed!!
