I am looking for something very specific here, and hope some of the community here can help.
I have an adult student who is at a 3.5 reading level and is just starting to learn to write. We’ve been doing phonics for a couple of weeks but it’s all new to him and he is not independent in reading beyond 3.5, his interpretation skills are terribly weak, but on the other hand he is an adult age 60.
He wants to learn about computers and after giving it some thought I’ve decided this would be a good thing, good for self-esteem and a useful job skill — even being able to type in an order or check an address etc. I’ve figured I can teach him to turn it on and off and open and close files and type whatever he wants to say in Word, and print when I get a working printer; these would all be useful skills. He can’t do email yet because he can’t spell (anything at all, no not even basic vocabulary and not even phonetically) yet.
I was wondering about the internet — high interest low reading level sites that he could access. Anyone have some ideas?
