I just, this very day, read about this in Mel Levine’s new book
A Mind at a Time….!

I bought mine at Barnes and Noble. You could ask your library
to make sure they have some copies on hand.

There is a user friendly book by Patricia McAleer Hamaguchi called Childhood Speech Language and Lisgtening Problems what every parent should know. It goes into literacy and reading in the second edition but it is packed with easy to understand information about speech and language issues. Chances are if your child has difficulty with oral language he also has difficulty with reading, especially if he has a disordered phonological system.

I always like Mel Levine’s book Educational Care.

In a nutshell, reading is built on spoken language. We read because we speak, in a sense. If are spoken vocabulary is not strong, it can hinder us in reading. We can only easily read words for which we already have a word in our mind.
