Hooked On Phonics

What’s up with HOP? It’s advertized on t.v. a lot, but haven’t read any info about it on this site.

It also doesn’t work with LD children who need a more systematic, explicit approach to reading. I had a neighbor who purchased it—I would say it is a nice tool for a nonLD child who (like my neighbor’s son) hasn’t had enough phonic instruction in class.

It would have done nothing for my LD son.

It’s a nice, expensive program (hey, they have to pay for all those ads!) — that is not designed for LD studnets. Many of my high schoolers had been through it as kids… but it didn’t do the trick.

I got HOP when my son wasin 1st grade it did not help him one bit or even my daughter who is 1 year younger than my LD son she also like him has speech difficulties but no LDs besides that.My 7 year old learned to read with it however when she was 4 and now in first grade reads on a 9 th grade level.I was not too impressed with it though myself really no colorful pictures .I am going to try it this summer with my 4 year old though she wants to read the books and is starting to recogize some words and knows most sounds but too has a speech articulation disorder so it might not work.It was expenive however grandma bought it thought it might help LD son.
