The regular teachers at my school really have a problem with pull out programs. I would like to do 30 minutes of pull out to do LiPS but they won’t let me. I have used LiPS for the past 3 years and the results are really amazing, but I’ve always done them daily. Would it still work if done say 3 times a week?

Why is it their decision? It is up to the IEP team to decide on each student’s needs. Perhaps you can talk to the students’ parents and enlist their support. Do I also sense that school administration is supporting the reg. ed. teachers demands?

Re: Can LiPS (lindamood) work even if it's not daily?
Hi Barbara,
I tutor privately using the LIPS program. Some of my students just see me twice a week for an hour each time. Others see me 4x a week for a half hour each time.
I’ve also taught LIPS to small groups (four students) 3x a week for a half hour each time.
In every case, it’s worth it. Of course you won’t make as rapid progress as if it were daily, but the children really do remember and do well with LIPS even when it’s just two or three times a week. Once a week would be very hard to progress, I’d think.
I have done them weekly for 1x/hr
I don’t think it’s a good as daily, but can be done. Try to raise the time just a bit…say 45 minutes 3x weekly. That might be a compromise to shoot for. If no go, then 30 minutes 3x.
What do the parents want?
thanks for the responses
The teachers have finally agreed to a pull out daily of 30 minutes but I had to switch things around. I guess they’re just very protective of their kids; they don’t realize how important the program is. I’m dealing with K and Gr. 1 teachers. Yes, you’re right, why do they get to decide? Parents want the program but it’s the teachers that I have to deal with regarding scheduling.
Re: thanks for the responses
Oh, yes, the regular teachers will complain. They will say that the kids are learning to read so well with their wonderful classroom program that it’s a waste of time and a disruption to pull them out.
How to find a LMB tutor?
My son is going to a tutor 2x/week for an hour each time. Privately. I didn’t realize people did LMB privately - I thought I had to go to their centers. Do you have any thoughts on how to find someone who REALLY does LMB privately?
Thanks!
Call a children's hospital in your region
Look for a department such as Developmental Medicine or Psychology. See if there is a social worker on staff. That person may have a resource list. That’s where I originally found someone who really does LmB in the K.C. area when my son was in gr. 1.
Also call private schools in the area.
Where are you located?
Re: How to find a LMB tutor?
Check out iser.com first.
Then look at other computerized listings of tutors — I posted a resource list some time ago, and will try to get it on the board again - you can remind me if I don’t.
Re: Call a children's hospital in your region
Ironically my son is in private school, but maybe if I call local LD schools. …That’s a thought.
There are tons of tutors in my area (tons of therapists, neuropsychs etc) its just a matter of finding the right person with the right skills. I only live 2 miles from Columbia University where many wonderful professionals get masters degrees in teaching, reading etc. But its shocking to me that I didn’t learn about LMB until I found this web site.
Thanks for that idea though, I’ll try it.
My daughter goes to LIPS only 2x/wkly. She has been going for almost 2 years. In fact, she should “graduate” this year. She is doing fabulous. This is, however, 1 on 1 with a tutor who works at an LD school and has been doing LMB for approximately 15 years.
