I posted a message a while back (Dec 11 or 12, I think) about SRA’s Breaking the Code, but I didn’t receive any answers. Does anyone know of a message board that might be more suited to my question (how well this program works for a child like my son)? I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks-
Re: no help here
Carol, my assumption here is that people are using things they perceive are better. That’s probably why you didn’t get a reply. SRA does have some good phonics materials for regular ed., but I don’t recall seeing their materials on a list of multi-sensory strutured language programs for reading. But I certainly have not seen Breaking the Code, so I can’t comment specifically on it. I could not find it on the SRA web-site either.

I could be wrong, but are you refering to the Explode the Code series? This is published by EPS (Educators Publishing Service), not SRA. It is an excellent supplementary series to be used in conjunction with a multisensory reading program.

Re: no help here
Marilyn, I do think I recall hearing of SRA Breaking the Code, but my catalogs are at school so I can’t look it up. I have no idea why they don’t have all their products on the web-site, though. That is a little frustrating.

You might give a holler at one of the www.teachers.net chatboards (there are ones for elementary, upper elementary, middle school and for remedial reading and special education as well — and a general one that gets a lot of traffic). I’m just not familiar with that program myself.
Our old school used it and it was okay. I’m sure it’s fine for someone without a reading disability. I had to supplement with my son to ensure that he learned how to read.
