Reading tutors in Georgia??

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

We are in need of a reading tutor in the Atlanta area, specifically Gwinnett County. We have been advised to find someone who can help our fifth grader with strategies to help her figure out vocabulary and improve her reading comprehension. Her phonemic awareness is poor, despite constant phonics tutoring. She now needs someone who can help her improve her reading comprehension with new strategies. I am looking for a private tutor rather than a center in hopes that this person can hone in on her individual needs. I have contacted the Georgia Chapter of the International Dyslexia Association and am waiting to hear from them also. Thanks for any help. Kathy

Hi Kathy,

On my website referrals page there is a lady named Becky Milton, in Newington, GA, who does advocacy and parent referrals, you can contact her from my referrals page at www.angelfire.com/on2/thepuzzle I don’t know if the phonics instruction you are referring to was Lindamood-Bell or something else, but there is also a tutor in Boston, MA (Katrina Ford) who is available for travel, well-trained in Lindamood-Bell techniques (I believe she used to work for one of their centers). Becky may very well know someone who can help, so I’d start there if I was you!

Good luck!

Sharon
