What is the best measurement of a students reading level? My school uses the Brigance pre/post test. Is there something better?

What about the child who has great reading comprehension (gifted/LD), but put those MS words in a list and she’s lost. I’m looking into Megawords for home (during the school year) and continuing LMB/Wilson, etc. with a tutor 3x/wkly during the Summer. Will the 2 conflict and confuse her? She’s already had approx 2 years of LMB (beginning 2nd grade)
How old is the child?
There are many measures—and some are only used with young children or older teens/adults. What is the cognitive ability of the person being tested?
I would recommend that you use an informal reading inventory, IRI. Some schools call it a QRI. Remember, the only real factor that show what reading level a child is on is his ability to decode MS words with fluidity in a word list as well as in context. The more MS words he can read, the higher the reading level. Usually when a child can read fluently, he will have good comprehension so it comes down to decoding MS words.
