Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Does anyone use Language! program ? And if so, do you know how it compares to Step Up to Writing? I feel like I have all my state standards covered with Step Up but an curious about this program that is research based that Lil mentioned in the link below on reading series programs that are research based.

Language, I understand is a very good program, and takes care of all of the language ‘area’ skills: reading and writing. I also have been told that you really need at least two years to go through it and for remediation work in the middle and high school level, it just wouldn’t work. I believe that the reading part is Orton Guillingham or close. I also have been told that it moves very slow and with out state tests, that wouldn’t work. We have too many benchmarks to reach in English in both middle school and high school in both writing and literature to spend as much time as it would take to do it justice. Now, for elementary school if you are teaching reading with OG, and every teacher is on the same page, it may be a very good program. Step satisfies my needs for my kids not only for the state tests but just to learn to write, which I think is a needed life skill for everyone.
