PACE?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Has anyone heard of a reading system called “pace”? It’s supposed to be like LIPS but incorporates a writing part as well.

PACE is fundamentally different from Lindamood-Bell.

It kill and drill to a metronome beat….It works for many of my associates who use it in their Educational Therapy programs, it is structured and one can follow the regime easily…

I use the LMB programs as a speech therapist. I am trained in PACE but I am not crazy about it. I like to use a more naturalistic approach in my speech therapy and in phonological development to improve reading skills…

Website is http://www.learningskills.com, I think.

This is not a reading program, but rather a cognitive skills training program. The only thing similar to LiPS is that PACE incorporates instruction in the mouth positions associated with different sounds. That would be about .0001 percent of the program. Some of the PACE exercises incorporate writing, but again it’s only a small portion of the program.

Which program you choose depends greatly on your child’s specific problems and what goals you have for remediation. LiPS works intensively on basic reading skills, while PACE works intensively on developing a wide variety of skills important to academic learning, including reading. MTC (Master the Code) is an add-on program to PACE that does focus exclusively on reading. Typically a child has to reach certain levels in PACE before embarking on MTC.
