to Lindamood parents

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

This is a question to parents who have taken their children to the Lindamood programs. We are trying to use the Lindamood programs in our school and we find that we need more time to do it. I’ve read from this board that the students at the LMB clinic stay in the clinic for 4 hours. I wonder how the 4 hours are spent. 1 hour for LiPS another hour for SS? VV? and On Cloud 9? Your input will be highly appreciated. Thanks!

we did 5 weeks last year- 4 55 chunks a day- 4 different teachers- 5 minute break between chunks. we did VV and LiPS (not the other 2- the programs are based on your kid’s needs) I think the four different teachers would do the same thing- maybe just adifferent tilt of personality - WE loved it (although tres $$$$$) We would love to do more for spelling but can’t fford- GREAT for reading though!
feel free to email if you want more details!

Barbara,

I don’t think LB is necessarily done the on the same schedule in a school setting as it is in the clinic. Perhaps you could call one of the schools that uses LB and ask them how they work it. That would be more relevant information than from those who have used the clinic.

My daughter only received 2 days a week for 2 years. She went from a non-reader to a reader in those 2 years. We are still dealing with MS words, but I am looking into Summer tutoring only (3 days weekly) to see if this help.

The amount of time spent on various tasks does vary by the student and the specific plan established for them.

Are you using LmB in your school with all kids or just reading impaired ones? Aren’t you early childhood?

My school uses Pathways to Reading which is a LmB-like product designed for general education classrooms K-3. We still have kids that aren’t ready for that instruction K-3 and do a clinical LmB in most schools for the lowest 10% of learners. We use both Title I and sped funds to reach all struggling learners.

I’m glad to see that you’re back, Susan! Yes, I’m early childhood. We use LMB only for those with special needs that we think would respond to this program (not all do). We’ve been doing inclusion and partial pull time and we find that we never have enough time to do it well. So, we’re thinking of revising our schedule for next year. We’re also thinking of offering a summer school.

Dear Barbara:

I worked at an LMB owned clinic in summer of 2000, and the students lessons plans concentrate on one program at a time.

For example, if a student needs reading help, his lesson plan for the day could be LiPS activities only, could be combined LiPS and Seeing Stars activities, or only Seeing Stars activities. The very same lesson plan is done by each of the four rotating teachers each day. If a student needs Visualizing and Verbalizing (comprehension), then the 4 hours are spent on VV only. Again, following the same lesson plan each of the four hours by the four different teachers. Same with Cloud Nine. During an 8 week period, a child could spend 4 weeks on LiPS/Seeing Stars, and then 4 weeks on VV.

The LMB program is more successful than other programs because of the intensity of the program.

Linda,

I am pretty sure that LB has changed the one-program-at-a-time approach. They now have a workshop on integrating LiPS, Seeing Stars, and Visualizing and Verbalizing. I am almost certain when I spoke with them that they told me they integrated the programs if a child needed more than one.

Susan,

My computer has a glitch and will not go to email when I click on your name. I have a mother of an APD child in the KC area who is in desperate need of help in regard to reading remediation choices, and I thought you could advise her about options. Would you please email me so I can have your email address? I’ll give you the details when you email me.

Thanks,
Janis
