Did anyone happen to tape Dr. Shaywitz’ appearance on the Today Show on Monday, 4-21? I tried to tape it, but it didn’t work and I’d love to have a copy of it. I’ll pay all costs involved if anyone has taped it and wouldn’t mind sending me a copy. Thanks!
Re: Shaywitz on the Today Show
Yes, I saw it there, but I wanted a copy on videotape so I could show it to a school board gathering. Thanks for your reply.
Re: Shaywitz on the Today Show
If you go to msnbc.com/news/903838.asp you will find that she did an on-line chat and you can download this onto a CD and maybe play it for the school board. You can hear the chat when you get on the site.
Good Luck.
Has anyone read Overcoming Dyslexia?
I realize that this book must have been released quite recently, but has anyone read it and would they be able to comment on it?
Re: Has anyone read Overcoming Dyslexia?
I am almost finished! This book is GOOD! One of the most interesting parts of this book is Shaywitzs’ description of the brain differences in dyslexic and good readers. She easily shows how dyslexic readers use a different part of the brain to read. The book will give you a good understanding of the specific problems in phonemic processing that disabled readers have. The second part of the book outlines a good reading program for beginning readers and older readers who haven’t learned to read. The book is easy to understand and very interesting. I’m going to read it again when I’m finished.
Re: Has anyone read Overcoming Dyslexia?
Alot of mothers on the Schwablearning.org read the book and gave rave reviews. It is simple to read and makes alot of sense. We had a entire discussion dedicated to this book. My book is on its way now.
It is a must read.

I read the first seven chapters so far, and am very impressed by the information and writing style. Then, of course, I’m skipping all over the place for the practical teaching suggestions as well. But, I will go back and read it from cover to cover! I also just recommended this book to our Reading Facilitator at our school. Now she’s eager to read it as well!
After reading the book, I will probably have many questions that I would like to share with posters on this forum when I am done.
