While we’re on the topic, I’m using V/V with a young boy (very bright) who has slight right-hemisphere brain trauma; we can’t get past visualizing a single sentence. He’s great with verbalizing pictures and with visualizing/verbalizing familiar objects. Has anyone else had difficulty getting past this stage? I’m thinking he may not be neurologically able to generate images on his own.
Re: Visualizing and Verbalizing appropriateness
Yes, he is seeing a SLP. I’m trying to get him to use known objects to help him (look out the window at that tree; that yard; your friend), but I wonder if I’m not just wasting his time, as it’s very difficult for him. Thanks.
collaborate with the SLP
she should provide you with some good strategies to use with your young man that will help him learn to compensate for his impairment. He may never have the skills he had before his injury but he will have strategies in place that will help him compensate for his deficits.
It could be his memory is impaired and he needs the visual reminders to trigger his memory. Is he being seen by an SLP, he should be considering he is having problems with his language.
