No, I’m sorry I was really hoping for some feedback.I picked the book up at the library and what I like about it is there are no phonics rules.Robin

Do you want French or English? I have *excellent* brand-new French materials, and classic good old tried-and-true English materials. Email me or post what you’re looking for.

Robin,
Very seriously, if you want an excellent program that rally works and does NOT teach rules, then you need to get a copy of “Reading Reflex” by Carmen and Geoffrey McGuinness. It contains the Phono-Graphix method and you can teach it straight from the book. I was introduced to it on this board a couple of years ago and went to training last year. I think it’s the best program to teach decoding because it is both fast and does not complicate things by teaching rules. The book is about $12 at Amazon.com. That’s an amazing bargain for such a powerful tool. It is also one of the research-based programs that meets the National Reading Panel qualifications.

Janis,I have RR and have been thru the whole process with him he just can’t seem to remember the spellings for the advanced code and when we got to MS words he really hit a snag.Do you think on the MS word reading it is okay to stray from PG’s rules as far as showing him how to split a word such as (matter) between the two constanants, this seems easier for him.I think because it gives him somewhere to start.I guess I just need to go back and go over the advanced code and hope he gets it this time. Thanks for your advice,Robin

Re: Phonic Remedial Reading Lessons
Robin — I think the “no rules” rule can go too far and become a fetish. Absolutely, reading class should be about reading, not about reciting non-comprehended rules. But once a student has the basics done and has matured a bit, a couple of rules like dividing between consonants won’t kill you.
Did you get any response?
I am looking to find some tools for my French seven year old.
Thanks
