When my son was in speech therapy, there was a program out that used the computer to slow down the sounds of various letters and then speed them up to re-wire the brain the to hear the sounds. It was supposed to be helpful in reading. Can someone remind me what the name of the program was? I believe it came out of research by Rutgers.
Re: Help with name of program?
Sound like Fast ForWord, by Scientific Learning. Researcher and developer of the program, Paula Tallal, was at Rutgers, I believe. www.scilearn.com should get you to their site. I had my son go through both 1 (Language) and 2 (Language to Reading). The hope is that it will improve auditory processing and processing speed. I now work for a public school district and have been a Fast ForWord provider for at least 100 kids. Fast ForWord is one piece in the puzzle for children with auditory processing deficits. It is not a reading program, but hopefully helps the child improve the auditory skills necessary for reading. It is very intensive work and individualized for each child. Two hours a day, five days a week for anywhere from 4 to 8 weeks. Check into the website and other information available. If your speech therapist recommends it definitely see if your public school district offers it. Otherwise it is very costly.
Company’s website is http://www.scilearn.com, although I think there is also a website called http://www.fastforword.com
