Did you know there are large print books in the library?

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son does better with larger print. I accidently found out today that there is a whole section (well one shelf) of children books in large print at my library. We also can request books from other libraries and I ordered the third and fourth Harry Potter books and Holes.

You have been luckier than we have. I wanted Large Print to go with audio books, but it was very hard to put a pair together. i have good audios of both Harry and Holes, so how nice to find the large print. I actually found a catalog of all types of large print, but the prices were sky high. ($95 and more for a single book)

HINT: Also check with your school district libraries. I know in our district there are audio cassettes. I would also check with your intermediate school district vision specialist they may know where to find them at no cost or limited expense.

Hope this helps.

I’ve noticed that my daughter also enjoys the large print better. Also, we use “textbooks on tape” that her 4th grade teacher gave to her to use to listen to the Science and Social Studies chapters. I brought it up at the IEP meeting and said I expected the 5th grade teacher to do the same. The tapes have been a real help.
