What are some strategies that would be beneficial to a high school resource English and math teacher with a variety of learning disabilities with in her classroom to help incorporate computer technology ?
Re: Diverse Classroom
Speaking of games! My kids are into a game that incorporates math BIG time. You can find out more about it on the Whiz kids website. It is not a computer game, but it is a sword and scorcery type of game. It is called Mage Knights. It is this little figurines, dragons, warriors, wizards etc. On the bottom on the figures is a dial the dail has numbers on them. You do battle against the other opponent by adding subtracting, measuring distances between each other to win or gain points. It uses a LOT of math and strategizing. My oldest’s LD is in Math and he is really into the game. He brings his calculator and measuring tape to the tournaments, and a way he goes. The Whiz Kid web site posts the scores,so he can look up his place.
Re: Diverse Classroom
I can recommend website that have such wonderful math games on disks or you can download them. It is by a company called Pierian Spring Software. The website is http://www.pierian.com. Just click on to the Math and it will give you a list of titles. It contains lessons on helping teachers teach students and helps the students to learn the lesson. It has worked with my middle school students
I would suspect that computer video games which might correlate with your curriculum might prove effective. I’m sure numerous math games are available and fantasty games which are similar in theme to the old english fables and sagas might raise interest among teens. .
