PRAXIS II

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Can anyone refer me to good study materials for the PRAXIS II? My calculus and trig are a little rusty. I graduated from college with math degree in 1976 and finally decided to teach. Anything will help. Thanks

It was a while ago, but if I remember the Praxis test, it was like most multiple-choice test and mostly asks trivia, not deep-thinking questions. Get the practice book from the source — I believe ETS, just like the SAT and all those other tests — and work through the sample tests given. You want speed and accuracy on very basic questions, not knowledge in depth.

Mary,
I think the previous posters were talking about elementary ed. praxis…. you probably want the math test. I also graduated in 1976 and I passed the math test, so you can do it. I sent to ETS for their math practice test. That was VERY helpful. Sample problems and solutions. When I first saw it, I panicked, but within a week, it was coming back. I studied total about 40-50 hours. I also went to Barnes and Noble and got a book called “Calculus the Fun Way”(very helpful) and another whose name I’ve forgotten on pre-calculus. You’ll need both because the test covers statistics, discreet math, logic and programming, etc. There are lots of little things that I hadn’t thought of in 25 years. So get the pre-calculus too. Also, you MUST have a graphing calculator. We didn’t use them in 1976, but you can’t answer the questions fast enough without it. You’ll need to practice how to use it. ( I jammed up in the middle of the test). Good luck. If you have any other questions, let me know. P.S. About programming, there was no C++ when we were in school, so I tried to teach myself. Wrong! I got every one of these questions wrong. Just skip them.
P.P.S. The test questions get harder as you go along. You only need about 30-33 correct answers to pass,(out of 50) so spend your time on the first 35-40 questions. Just ignore the last 10.
