Strategic Math Series

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Has anyone used “Strategic Math” by Cecil D. Mercer? This was recommended in an LD methods course I took, but I want an opinion from a teacher who uses it. Thanks, Kathye

In my opinion, Dr. Mercer is one of those bird-dogs that has a nose for what works. He doesn’t know everything about every subject, however, I respect his opinion and work.

I want to check this out! Thanks for mentioning it. Perhaps several will look it over and we can discuss.

Some interesting stuff, but no direct link to this title. Perhaps it is still being tested. Did find out that it is software specifically designed to help memorize math facts. I do not believe, from my limited reading, that this software is supposed to do anything else.

Did your text have any references to Dr. Mercer? Have you done an ERIC search?

The program from Dr. Mercer is part of a large program from Dr. Don Deschler at Kansas University. (Another top-notch fellow in the field.) The program cannot be purchased without accompanying training, as is the case with much of the work from the Center for Research on Learning that is at all recent.

If you are still interested, here is the website

Email to [email protected] for a mailing. They do some outstanding work and their workshops are wonderful. Mid-range price without accommodations.

That was fun…what else can we look for?

Susan, sorry for not responding to your post, but school statred last week and this is the first chance I’ve had to go online. Our State Dept. of Education consultant spoke of this series in a class I attended. I will contact her for information. I was hoping to be able to order only the multiplication book since money is tight. Thanks for the info.
