Any suggestions on good math software? Levels: grade 5-8
Re: math software suggestions please
Geometer’s Sketchpad is an OUTSTANDING way to teach geometry. It is highly interactive and engaging. The Shapemaker’s Challenge game (part of Geometer’s Sketchpad program) is an innovative approach to discovery learning.
Fizz and Martina software is great for developing problem solving skills. It is usually done in a cooperative learning situation. This software has done wonders for our students’ scores on the extended response portion of ISAT mathematics.

Software for college age?
Does anyone know any math programs that would be geared toward high school or college age students?
What skills?
There are lots of old-fashioned drills at www.aaamath.com for the basics.
I have been severely unimpressed by software I’ve reviewed for algebra and higher. OFten it’s got enough programming errors in it to frustrate anybody.
Jump Start and Cluefinders are great all-around programs because they are good for kids who are strong in areas other than math so that they feel they are succeeding. they cannot avoid the math portion of the program, because all sections need to be completed to win. In Cluefinders they take a test at the beginning of the program which than sets each area on a different level so they avoid frustration.
My kids also enjoyed Awesome Animated Monster Maker Math. This is for up to 10 years but the company may make an older version. Math Blaster was one they enjoyed, I know it was for up to 9 years old but they may make an older kids one as well. These programs still work well for my NLD stepdaughter who has problems with place value and regrouping.
My son, who is advanced in Math has really enjoyed Princeton Math Review. This is for 12 years and above but I wouldn’t recommend it for a 12 year old who is having trouble in Math because it can be frustrating. Hope this helps at all.
