Cornerstone and Math-U-See

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

Has anyone used any of the cornerstone math programs? How about math-u-see? I’m considering purchasing a supplemental program to use with my dd (10 yrs old). I’m looking at just helping to reinforce concepts.

I have not heard of Cornerstone at all. I have heard of Math-u-See as many homeschoolers use it, and I hear positive comments. I just wanted to tell you that our state (NC) International Dyslexia Association conference is having a presentation on Math-u-See in March. Sorry I can’t be of more help, but all I know is that it is a manipulative program and there are videos to instruct the teacher how to teach the concepts.

I don’t know about Cornerstone, but Math-U-See is very oriented to concept development and used by many homeschoolers for that reason.

I used math u see with my 10 yo son, starting at 2nd grade, we had a lot of success with it. my 7 yo son, who is dyslexic and is in 1st grade, could not get past the first lesson. we worked on it for a couple months…it is place value, learning to identify, build, read and write numbers up to 999. He never could do it day after day. We finally dumped it and went on to horizons math from alpha omega, for grade k-5. It has a more incremental approach and although it is kinder math, at least he is progressing. but the math u see was wonderful for my other son. it totally turned him around with math in 2nd grade, we used it through the first book.
