Here’s a great page for “how to start homeschooling.”
THe first step is to find out what legal requirements you’ve got, especially with special ed labels involved (though in some states that really doesn’t make much difference).

There are links specifically about homeschooing kids with LD and/or ADHD at

I am in the process of setting up homeschooling for my daughter. Start with the State Laws. Some states allow a student to be homeschooled and still graduate with a diploma not a GED. These states have an umbrella clause. Alot of private schools will do this service for you. You pay a set fee a month, they provide books (if you need), and support (if you need). If you go to the local school boards book warehouse, you can buy books at a really low price. Another suggestion is to check out certain websites concerning the disabilities of your stepson. They will give you suggestions on how to handle things while you are homeschooling. My daughter is LD and I think that her Jr. High years will be better if I homeschool. I am a student in a teaching program learning to be an Exceptional Ed. teacher. Homeschooling a child with disabilities takes alot of patience. Good Luck. I hope that I helped. Eamil me if I can help with anything else. Ida
