As a parent of a child who falls on the spectrum I can tell you the most important thing to him his structure. The more structered the classroom the better he does. It is also nice to have a place to “escape” to if the child is feeling overwhelmed. Sometimes you get much more time back if you just allow these children to escape to a quiet cornor when they feel overwhelmed. My son responds well to music. For example Mozart playing in the backround when he is working. No two of these kids are alike though so it is hard to say how it would work for a group. My son did well with a program called Rock-N-Phonics which I picked up at a parent teacher store for $12.95. His teacher used it in her classroom last year and reported an increase for all her students. He is in a self-contained classroom with a total of 10 students. These students like yours are all on different levels. This year his teacher is using Great Leaps that I provided after I found out about it on this web-site. The program is very affordable and I felt very easy to use. It is not the sole program used for reading but is used the first part of reading class. OUr sons program has 2 teachers, a speech therapist and a social worker that works with the class. What support will you have?
