Visual processing disorder

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

My son has a visual processing disorder (includes visual closure, visual discrimination and especially visual memory).

Can anyone tell me of any exercises or a program that would be beneficial for him. Thanks

Has he had a developmental vision evaluation? If not, that would be the first thing to do. You can find developmental optometrists at http://www.covd.org. When there are developmental vision delays, vision therapy is usually very helpful.

Once developmental vision delays have been either ruled out or remediated as much as possible, cognitive training can help a lot. We did PACE (Processing and Cognitive Enhancement, http://www.learninginfo.com), and it’s an excellent program, but expensive. An inexpensive, home-based cognitive training program that has a very good visual component is Audiblox (http://www.audiblox2000.com). Audiblox costs about $80 for book, video, and starter set of manipulatives.
