behavior management

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

I am currently a student at Salisbury University. I plan to graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education. I am curious how other teachers handle behavior management problems without penalizing the rest of the class. If you have any suggestions, please respond. Thank you!

The general population should not be punished for the actions of a few. Isolate those who are interfering with the teachers right to teach and the students right to learn. Teachers spend too much time trying to save one child at the expense of 25 others. Frequent parent contacts is helpful but the age of the child is also a major factor. Some kids behaviors disappear when they are isolated without an audience and know that every time the behavior is exhibited the same consequence will occur. Never argue with kids - you will lose. Never match a students emotional state - stay calm and focused on what is your responsibility. That is providing a quality education to your students.
