Vision Therapy

Submitted by an LD OnLine user on

PASSWORD>aa9rC9nUYfNHkWe are exploring vision therapy for our 12 year old LD daughter. She often skips words when trying to read and her school recommended we consider treatment. A developmental optomotrist evaluated her and has proposed a treatment plan of many months of computer aided therapy. What do you know about vision therapy? Does it take 10-12 months of twice weekly sessions to see results? Is the computer aided program the best way to approach this? Thanks!

They are taking him three times a week for the next four months initially. Becuase of the cost; $6,000, they are trying a short period of treatment. At the end of four months he will be re-evaluated and they will go from there. My friend is not convinced this will help, but they really want to help their son and so are biting the bullet.God bless, Karla B.

: I paid for 12 months of vision therapy for my daughter. It really seemed like it helped. Of course, she was getting intensive reading instruction in the school at the same time. I found an eye doctor with a reputation in that field. He was able to show me in objective tests what the changes were. The activities made sense to me. My daughter went once a week for 12 months. Total cost about $3,000.

Our daughter did this therepy for 6 months. It helped very litte in her case. There are lenses that can correct alot of problems, but our dr. did not mention that option. He had her jumping on a trampoline while reading, doing crawling and other physical body exercises. Focusing on flash cards as well as working on the computors. An outside therepist told us about the lenses and they worked far better and were alot cheaper by far.
