Could someone please tell me the difference between a “modification” and an “accommodation” and an “adaptation.” Thanks
Re: modification v. accommodation
An accommodations means you have the same curriculum but it is presented differently. THus, the same test would be read to you, and/or you would dictate your answer instead of writing it yourself. You would learn concepts and terms via Braille books… or videos and interactive learning… but you’d be accountable for the same material.
MOdifications mean the actual curriculum is changed, so you may have fewer spelling words or vocabulary terms (you might actually learn more since you might get those guys to long-term memory during the time you would have spent cramming the other 20 words into short-term memory for the test)/
Obviously there’s a grey area — the same ideas learned at a more concrete level, or short answer vs. essay or multiple guess questions.
Modification means a change to the curriculum that is made for a student. Fewer vocab words, a different textbook, excusing them from taking a foreign language…
Accomodation means exactly that. The student’s learning needs are accomodated through extra time on tests, listening to books on tape, etc. etc.
