I teach third grade students with various disabilities (mostly mild autism and LD). I am looking for writing projects to get them motivated. I would like to use the computers in my classroom. Does anyone have any ideas to share?

I teach computer technology classes in an elementary school. Our district purchased 50 copies of Inspiration 6 for every school in the county. It is the BEST use of technology funds that I’ve seen.
Inspiration 6 is software which produces graphic orgainzers. In a matter of minutes, you can introduce students to the software and have them creating webs. There are templates for everything from literature to photosynthesis (hope that’s spell right) webs.
I’ve purchased a copy to use at home with my own children, who are ADD. Inspiration 6 beats any of the paper and pencil webs that we’ve used in the past. It’s fun and fast and appropriate for grade 3-12 (although I’ve used it with first and second graders and adults). I’ve also used it with E.D. classes.
There is a companion product called Kidspiration which was designed for grades K-3, it uses a lot of pictures.
You can find out more about these software packages at www.inspiration.com. And NO, I don’t work for the company, I’m just really sold on the product!
