I am looking for recommendations on typing programs that are effective for dyslexic students grades 3-8.

Hi
Have you tried Texthelp Read & write.
My son uses this and loves it. It corrects spelling mistakes ,reads what you type, predicts and it can do lots of other things.
I think the web site iswww.texthelp.com.

It’s not software, it’s a book — but it works better for kids with dyslexia because it’s more language based (teaches the whole alphabet, in order, which for my high schoolers uncovered that some of ‘em had forgotten it — and these were college prep students). It’s available from Educators Publishing Service (http://www.epsbooks.com)

For the younger studetns I’d be tempted to give read, write and type a shot — but it’s a bit young for the top end. IT is a software program, and it reinforces the sounds of the letters while it teaches typing (it was designed by educational specialists, not typing specialists) — go to http://www.readwritetype.com .

Another very popular program is Sunburst’s Type to Learn.

Also check out http://www.thelearningstudio.com , but I believe that lady passed away recently (unless I”ve got the wrong person, in which case I apologize in advance!!!)

Of the many available typing programs available, I have used (with students) a program called Typing Master 2002…it is a highly graphical and comprehensive program for QWERTY format typing. You can download a tril version from their website http://www.typingmaster.com/index.asp?go=tutordemo (well worth a look…)*****

I found All The Right Type a good learning experience. Though I’ve just finished it, it helped me learn how to type faster than I already did. It helped other children learn how to type. I suggest you buy this or download it.
