Re: Can someone help?
LaDonna,Thank you so very much!! I don’t feel like such a failure now.I agree, writting seems to be the hardest peice.I have one other dificult area you may be able to help with.Math. My son adds really well, especially since he can barely count to 20.He can add as many numbers as you can give him(on paper). He has no problem carrying. In subtraction he can subtract as long as he doesn’t have to borrow.Do you have any suggestions for borrowing.
I can’t thank you enough Rainbow
Re: Can someone help?
Wow! sounds like you are doing great. Make sure you are showing him borrowing using manipulatives or touch points. It is probaby the concept of “not enough” that he is not getting, so manipulatives and picutres are very helpful. I believe in pictures for our LD kids, because the language (too many words) is often what is confusing. So I say, say less and show more. You’re doing great!

Re: Can someone help?
Inspiration is a good piece of software for creating graphic organizers for writing, however this version can be more difficult for some students. There is another version called Kidspiration (same maker) that utilizes colorful pictures for the graphic organizers. Keep in mind to take into consideration the level of your child, so one child might find kidspiration to be “childish”. For another struggling with writing Kidspiration might “liven” up the activity. They are low cost software programs so it wouldn’t be difficult to transition from one to another.
Re: Can someone help?
Although I haven’t tried it yet, my AT specialist just gave us a copy of Draft Builder for my daughter to try. We plan to check it out over the Summer.
Storybook Weaver and Inspiration are two programs that I have had great results with. I am a Special Ed. teacher and I have found writing to be the last and most difficult piece. I have been doing some research this year using technology with children with Learning Disabilities and have found Storybook Weaver to yeld very good results. I also really like Secret Writers Society and so do the kids for teaching writing.
Hang there, LaDonna
