Re: Distance Learning for L.D
I have taught content areas & reading & math in middle & high school LD — right now I”m working for the local community college in pre-college level classes. I’ve thought for a while that special ed teachers should get together and share expertise, especially in content areas.
Re: Distance Learning for L.D
Hi, I’m not an educator, per se, but I did homeschool my daughter for three years. She’s been in public school for two years now, and is in ninth grade. She’s coded SED with Bipolar Disorder. Because of frequent hospitalizations and the severity of her mental illness, she misses a lot of school.
We’re pushing for intermittent homebound and hospital bedside tutoring services at the next ARD which is less than a month away. I meandered over to the homeschooling forum here and checked out a link they advised.
It was like an answer to a prayer. Economical, only $600 per year which includes 20 students(they have other rates up to complete districts), unlimited coursework and storage and retrieval of online testing. The website offers full curriculum for grades K-12, and has been profiled in the ‘paperless classroom’ since all materials are online except for a few lab items. The program can be used on PDA of all things! It was a government funded program called The Kentucky Migrant Education Initiative or somesuch. I printed out everything on it, and will present it as an option to our ARD committee which can then refer it to whomever for evaluation.
Why wouldn’t that sort of thing work for severely learning disabled students who can only handle school part-time or who have periodic hospitalizations like my daughter?
What is it? I’d be glad to try to help…
