As I’m writing goals that allign with State Standards, I find it difficult not to write goals that I know my students need just because the state has not made a Standard that fits that goal, or maybe I just have not found it yet. I wish to write a goal for organization skills, with bench marks: will complete assignment notebook, will bring all material and assignments to class, will complete and return assignments on time, etc. Does anyone know what Standard if any will address these needs?
Re: Writing gaols for organizational skills
I work for a school distrcit in Western New York and I sat on a committee that rewrote the goals and objectives for use on our IEP data bank that are aligned to the Standards. This is definately a worthwile project, possibly for th summer!
I don’t think states have written standards for issues outside of the realm of specific subject areas. traditionally schools are supposed to teach reading, writing, math, social studies, science………organizational skills are not likely to be in state standards. However, we are mandated by IDEA to assess all suspected areas of disability and to write goals. Organization skills can and do impact success across the curriculum and they should be addressed. So for it!
