I have been frustrated by trying to find scanned text sharing of text readible textbooks for my daughter. I offered to buy text and publishers would only refer me to recordings for the blind. Recordings for the blind only does recordings. My daughter needs text and speech together.
A learning specialist with Montgomery County Public Schools mentioned there is Federal Legislation S.2246 sponcered by Senator Dodd called I think the Instructional Accessiblity Materials Act that is winding its way though congress.
I have just requested a copy of the bill, but understand it requires Instructional materials to be available for disabled students in formats they can use. I also understand it is aimed mostly at getting braile texts for the blind. Is anyone familure with the ogananizations lobbying for it or know who I should contact to volunteer and donate to get law passed that includes requirment that all textbooks printed in the US be available for purchase in media learning students with reading disabilities with text readers like Kurzweil 3000 and Wynn can read.
Thanks.

The legislation was drafted collaboratively by the American Council of the Blind, American Foundation for the Blind, American Printing House for the Blind, Association of American Publishers, Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired, National Federation of the Blind, and Recording for the Blind and Dyslexic. For more information, visit the American Foundation for the Blind Web site at http://www.afb.org/info_document_view.asp?documentid=1704 and you can email [email protected]. The Instructional Materials Accessibility Act of 2002, bill number S.2246, was originally sponsored by Christopher Dodd and has 23 cosponsors.

Hi :
This may be a solution I personally have to have both the hard textbook and it on tape. If your daughter has the textbook already all she needs is they recorded portion which RFBD(Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexia) can provide. I am assuming that the book that your daughter needs is not on tape yet??? And that’s why you need the reading software to do for her. patsouth
