My son is classified SLD andhe had a OT evaluation for the first time a few months ago. They will start OT services for his Writing issues this coming week. The OT said he has severe balance issues too and she will work on these also.He is 9 1/2 and finally the school wants to help us.He is very bright and has compenstaed very well till this year. She says his attention in class is great.he does take medicine for ADHD,Tourettes, and OCD and has for over a year. One thing I have a question is about her evaluation is what is a positive ATNR.My son wears glasses and has went through vision therapy and it did not seem to help much and his eye doctor said he just thinks it is a processing disorder and the school is going to have to accomindate him more and more as he gets older and they dont want to.She said he has no problems in self dressing but he does he cant tie shoes whem they are on his own feet and he cant buttom pants or un button them eiether and has wet and went to the bathroom inhis pants because of this.I wont see this OT for a couple weeks to address these issues in her report. She also says hisscores on the Motor Free Visual Perceptual Test was 6 yrs 3 months and on thVMI was a 6 yr 1 month. She says balance has a lot to do with writing ability why is this so?
Fran,
I’m sorry that I can’t answer your question, but I think you should call the OT and ask her your questions. It would have been nice if she had explained the results a little better in her report. But since she didn’t, you have every right to call and ask her to explain…you don’t have to wait two weeks!
