Has anyone tried IM for your child, and, if so, with what success? It sounds so promising, so expensive, so hard to find a provider. I have a daughter with NVLD. Of course she has attentional issues as well as classic NVLD issues. Would IM help??? Thanks
Re: IM?
I have only heard of it but was reviewing their web site yesterday, it sounds very interesting. Don’t know anyone that has used it. My child is ADD (inattentive) & SLD and I think this might help — would like to get the school to put it in an IEP. I, too, would also like to hear from people who have used this
My child has done it
Greetings Curious,Interactive Metronome is designed to improve rhythm, timing, focus and attention. The American Journal of Occupational Therapy investigated IM and published its findings in the March 9, 2001 issue. It found IM to be the first training technology to achieve statistically significant attentional improvements with ADHD children. My now 14yo daughter completed the program last year. The most noticable gains achieved as a direct result of IM therapy was with her sense of timing. Before IM, even though my daughter didn’t have any problems rollerblading, cycling, jumping rope, doing the hula hope, Skip-It, etc., she was kind of a klutzy kid - always banging a shin, stubbing a toe, twisting an ankle, knocking a knee, falling down the stairs, etc. Since completing IM she no longer does this! When she ate a meal, she would always spill something on herself and I could always tell where she ate because there would also be spilled food around her plate and on the floor. She no longer does this at all!! Prior to IM, she could not accurately clap her hands to a beat and could not sing in rhythm. Now she can do both quite well! She is now taking drum lessons because of her improved timing and rhythm. All of this has definitely improved her quality of life and her self-respect. My daughter completed 17 sessions and achieved the target score of 19 for the 2000 hand repetitions but not as an average. My friend’s son also achieved great gains with IM and we both highly recommend it.Blessings, momo
