Has anyone had any experience with this method of teaching called The Strategic Instruction Model from the Uni of Kansas? I was told about it when I was interviewing a school district for a possible move to Fl. Thanks for any info!

The strategies go beyond superficial things like mnemonics to help you remember steps to a process (though there are some of these kinds of things), to strategies that offer the kinds of structures that enable kids to organize and apply knowledge (as opposed to strategies for surviving a class). One of the things emphasized at a recent presentation was the importance that the strategies go beyond one teacher in one year— that the strategies be taught and expected across the school day and from one year to the next, as well. And like anything else, it’s as good as the people using it — and something that works well in one setting can be much less effective in another, especially if resources and cooperation are harder to come by.

Each year I teach the University of Kansas, Strategies Invervention Model, Test-Taking Strategy called PIRATES to my 8th grade students. It gives the students clear steps to improve their test performance. I received certified training and think the programs developed by Univeristy of Kansas is teachable and productive for my students
