My 9 yr old daughter has a complex diagnosis- semantic pragmatic disorder- autistic spectrum, significant language deficits-both output and input-CAPD-anxiety disorder. signinficant dyspraxia- motor planning issues. We are pleased with her IEP, have many professionals such as developmental pediatrician, psychologist, etic.,. involved in decision making. Have expensive therapies etc. The school is VERY insistant they do a psychiatric evaluation. We do not want to pay for another one(she had one four years ago) as we think the money should go towards therapies and we and our doctors feel we have a grasp on the direction she is going in. Red flags are being raised in my head about the school paying for a psyche eval, how much privacy are we giving up, are they wanting to use it to change her IEP- (she is progressing and doing well). Their explanation is “it will help us do our job better, by undrstanding and helping her.” Significant language disorder makes much testing faulty. If the district does the eval, it is in her file,do they own it? Hmm,interesting question.If you mean will they see the information,yes. But if you did an eval,and you didn’t share the information with the school,this would not fair well either. But if you mean they can share it with whom ever they want,No,they don’t own it , you do. They must have your consent to show the eval to anyone other then specific personel working with her. They must provide you, upon request, a list of everyone who has accessed her files. Again,same as the previous post,I do not believe they can just drop her services,based on data from the evaluation. It would have to be an IEP team decision. The only time this would apply is when they do the initial evaluation. I also wouldn’t take “to help her better” answer. I would want specificly ,in writing why they need or feel they need a Psychiatric eval,this before ever consenting or doing a psych eval.Sharon Gudger wrote:
