Have any parents out there have any input on how to deal with schools after they diagnosed a child with LD. I dearly like to hear some input on that the school was fast on diagnoses but very slow on what can they do.
I was even tempted to sue them because while they said budget cuts theycould not offer much yet school district spent millions on buying new sport uniforms and equipment for the High Schools football teams, no hesitation there.
So there has to be a way, maybe this is an issue that I need to bring to the school board and not the my direct school principal.
Last school year we took him out of kindergarden from a child that was so excited to go to school to where he would cry in terror if we went any where near the school, I hate them for this. We put him in a private school on a pre-K class to give him one more year to mature, he has bloomed the school he goes to now offer kindergarden also but I want to go to our school that my taxes support and see what they offer for his support for the coming year.
Re: School and my LD 6 year old son
Suing the schools won’t teach the teachers how to teach or teach the administrators priorities. They tend to put the oil of dollars on the squeakiest wheel, and then there’s the stereotype principal. Dont you know they were all PE teachers?
Due process costs big bucks in time and effort. Often a parent has to decide whether to devote those mental and financial resources to getting the school to do its job, or to getting your kid the skills he needs or at least salvaging what self-esteem and faith in his own intelligence that you can. It even comes down to if you’re fighting bitterness and anger it’s hard to be a good parent and it is really hard to deal with a school system without being mad.
If you have a good school choice I would go for it and learn about this stuff to help parents who don’t have those choices. It’s not just your school, the problem is a lot bigger t han that. Yes, you sort of have the law on your side. Are those laws enforced? Bottom line, is special education funded? Not.

Boy - do I know exactly what you’re talking about……Sounds like I wrote that all myself.!!!!! I’m going through the same thing here, for a year now.
Your situation is not unique. Schools can be much quicker at diagnosing an issue that doing something about it. Some schools simply do not have existing programs for children with learning differences and many parents struggle for services throughout their children’s time in school.
A lawsuit? If it is that easy (although expensive) that would be great.
The bad news is schools are still figuring out what to do for their children with learning differences. The good news is you have a wonderful kindergarten for your son if you decide to go that way.
