Why when an agreement is reached does the parent have to chase down
the responsible people to carry out the agreement??
Re: capd
You certainly have your right to an opinion and it is true that this world includes all kinds of folks (we have parents of sped. students who place more attention on their child’s Little League and Pop Warner than on reading, writing, arithmetic, and I mean to the point of neglecting school work……….this mentality is found throughout our sports crazed culture where sports icons earn more money than everyone in my neighborhood combined!).
However, it is pretty much fact that our schools receive drastically fewer sped. $$$ than they spend on sped. This means that our school districts dip into the general fund to make up the difference. Some of the kinds of things my district has had to pay for include out of state residential facilities for “mentally ill” youngsters. These private facilities are costly and the district also must pay for monthly family visits: flying the family to the location, placing them in a motel, paying for their meals, other incidental expenses.
If this is happening in my district (it is), then it is happening in others. The child’s condition has nothing whatsoever to do with our district or his education. The school district is a convenient target for everyone with a gripe against society and the host of social problems we deal with. Mental health services are a social problem the school should not be held responsible for.
Also, our high school groups and teams run many fund raisers to assist in paying for uniforms and other essentials.
Because the school really dosnt want to spend their money to impliment the new agreement and provide your child or anyone elses with a free appropriate public education. They figure if no one follows up on an expensive decision, it will just go away.
I imagine at least 80 percent of the time this works for them, the parents dont rant and rave and make them follow through.
They are rewarded for their negligence by being able to then use the money they saved cheating your kid out of his or her education to buy new football uniforms for the highschool.
